A Walk For M.E

On May 5th, 2024, I am going to start walking around Ireland’s West Coast and Northern Ireland’s North Coast; the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ and the ‘Causeway Coastal Route’.
Thank you for taking time to read my story and reasons for taking on this challenge. My 29-year-old brother Josh passed away in August 2023.
Growing up Josh was always very active with a real passion for exercise and the outdoors.
Josh fell ill with M.E. in 2017; his health continued to deteriorate until he was completely bed-bound and entirely reliant on our family for his care.
This walk is giving me a purpose; I want to continue to tell my brother’s story and hope to raise much needed funding and awareness in the hope one day people don’t need to suffer with this devastating illness.

The walk will be roughly 2500km in length; I plan on walking around 40km a day for over two months.
I will be self-funding the whole trip, with all the money raised going directly to the charities through Josh’s “much loved” page and “Idonate” page.
At present, I plan to wild camp and cook for the majority of the trip and will be leaning on the kindness of friends, the Irish Hoteliers & the couch-surfing community for the occasional stay.
There are estimated to be around 250,000 people in the UK and Ireland suffering with M.E/CFS.
It is a complex and chronic medical condition that effects multiple body systems. At present, ME/CFS has no effective drug treatment and full recovery is rare.
Both “Action for M.E”, and the “Irish ME/CFS Association” support people living with M.E and are helping conduct research which we hope can find a cure for this debilitating illness.

Thank you for any donation you are able to make, I know it will be greatly received by the charities. I would also be very grateful if you could share the Instagram handle with your friends and loved ones so we can gather more awareness and support for the charities. Finally, if you feel like putting a few miles in the feet, you’re more than welcome to join me on a stretch of the walk. Cheers, Lee
